BERLIN, April 30, 2022 – The U.S. team comprised of Hayden Brown (Corona Del Mar, Calif./SCATS Gymnastics), Alex Deubler (Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics), Danila Leykin (Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics) and Cole Partridge (Bountiful, Utah/USA Gymnastics World) finished fifth in Friday’s team competition on the opening day of the 2022 International Junior Team Cup at the Sportforum Hohenschonhausen in Berlin. Brown and Deubler claimed all-around hardware in their respective age groups, while the team secured 12 individual event finals appearances between them. On Sunday, the Americans added ten individual medals, including six gold, as the competition wrapped with apparatus finals.

U.S. gymnasts posted a combined 229.100 to earn a top-five team finish. France surged to the top spot with a 236.050, while teams from Germany (231.150) and Italy (230.750) rounded out the podium. Roughly two points separated the second and fifth positions.

As individuals, gymnasts were split into three age groups with Age Group 1 comprising the oldest competitors and Age Group 3 the youngest. Brown posted the day’s top all-around score in Age Group 3 with a 72.800. Noah Beetz of the German club SC Cottbus (70.850) and Poland’s Tomasz Le-Khac (70.300) were second and third. Deubler’s 76.050 earned him the all-around silver medal in Age Group 2. He finished just behind Germany’s Jonas Eder (76.400). Austria’s Gino Vetter (74.300) was third, while Leykin took fifth with a 73.450. Partridge was 10th in the Age Group 1 all-around with a 76.750. France’s Romain Cavallaro led the way with a 79.150 followed by Germany’s Daniel Mousichidis (78.450) and Italy’s Jacopo Zuliani (77.550).

All U.S. team members picked up hardware Sunday, as the competition concluded with event finals. Partridge, the only U.S. competitor in the oldest age division, finished first on horizontal bar with a 13.450. Mousichidis and Hungary’s Szilard Zavory shared the silver medal with a 13.000. Partridge landed just off the podium in the still rings final. He was fourth with a 13.000. Cavallaro’s 13.350 earned gold, while Sweden’s Luis Sung Melander II (13.200) and Great Britain’s Jack Stanley (13.050) rounded out the top three.

The Americans were represented in every Age Group 2 final except pommel horse. Deubler earned two gold medals and a silver, and Leykin added a gold and a silver. Deubler’s 13.050 on still rings bested Eder (12.650) and Austria’s Gino Cousin (12.550) who finished second and third. He also topped the podium on vault with a 13.125 after posting individual vault scores of 12.850 and 13.400. Belgium’s Victor Tournicourt (12.825) and Romania’s Justin Mihai Radu (12.700) earned silver and bronze. Deubler’s silver medal came on horizontal bar. His 13.000 was outpaced only by Israel’s Dmytro Dotsenko who delivered a 13.600 to claim gold. Cousin was third with an 11.900. Leykin topped the field on parallel bars with a 13.450, finishing solidly ahead of The Netherland’s Reduan Bottse, who landed in the runner up spot with a 12.750, and bronze medalist Michael Goddard of Great Britain (12.400). Cousin (13.200) edged Leykin (13.050) for the gold medal on floor exercise. Elijah Faverus of The Netherlands (13.000) was third.

Brown secured four podium finishes in the Age Group 3 finals, collecting two gold and two bronze medals. Brown clipped Great Britain’s Benjamin Porter on still rings 12.350-12.250 to claim the title. Israel’s Noam Berkovich was third with an 11.550. Brown also led the way on horizontal bar, setting the bar with an 11.750. Berkovich (11.300) and Porter (11.150) were second and third. Le-Khac topped the field on floor exercise with a 12.600, while Porter was second with a 12.200. Brown and Berkovich split third place with a 12.050. Berkovich earned the day’s high marks on parallel bars with a 12.200. Le-Khac was second with a 12.050, and Brown and SC Cottbus’ Artem Yarovyi shared the bronze with a 12.000. Brown finished fourth on pommel horse. His 10.900 was outpaced by Porter (11.750), Le-Khac (11.200) and Berkovich (11.150).
