Coronavirus and the Gymnastics Community

Dear USA Gymnastics Members,

Like many of you, we have become increasingly concerned with how the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) situation could affect our community. Please know that the health and well-being of our athletes and community continues to be our organization’s top priority.

With that in mind, we have already limited travel for USA Gymnastics staff and national team athletes and staff, provided guidance from the CDC and WHO to our community, and urged our leaders and meet directors in each state and region to cancel events in areas of heightened concern.

Now, as we have learned more about how best to protect our community, we have made the decision to cancel USA Gymnastics’ events and event sanctions, at least through the end of March.

We recognize that this is a challenging time for our community, and that many of you will have questions about how this decision might impact postseason competition or your individual gym. Our program leadership teams are working to provide additional guidance and will be reaching out to you in the days and weeks to come.

While we know that disruptions and cancelations are not ideal, this decision was reached based on our commitment to our community’s health and well-being. We appreciate your commitment to each other, and everyone’s efforts to make the best of this tough situation.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update our guidance as it evolves.

Sincerely,
Li Li Leung
President & CEO, USA Gymnastics
