Gymnasts of the Week – March 19-21, 2021

Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices. More will be added throughout the week as they become available.

Big Ten Conference
Gymnast of the Week
Paul Juda - Michigan
  • Scored a nation-leading 14.950 on parallel bars to help lead No. 2 Michigan to a win over No. 6 Penn State on March 20
  • Also took event titles on floor (14.650) and vault (14.700)
  • Earned victories on pommel horse (13.900), parallel bars (14.200) and high bar (14.100) as Michigan defeated No. 5 Ohio State in a virtual meet on March 17
  • Collects his third career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award and second this season
Freshman of the Week
Michael Jaroh - Penn State
  • Placed in the top five in four events in No. 6 Penn State’s meet against No. 2 Michigan on March 20
  • Finished second on vault (14.600) and fourth on parallel bars (13.950), with both scores being personal bests
  • Also competed on pommel horse (13.850), rings (13.500) and high bar (13.400)
  • Earns his second Freshman of the Week award

Eastern College Athletic Conference
Gymnast of the Week
Matthew Davis – Army
Davis picked up where he left off in Army’s first week of competition in almost a month. He won floor, rings, and all-around titles and led the Black Knights to victories over Niigata University of Management and Springfield College. Davis had season high scores on rings and horizontal bar and was pivotal to Army earning their highest team score this season.

Specialist of the Week
Matthew Martin – Army
Matthew Martin had a successful week for the Black Knights, highlighted by first-place finishes on pommel horse against both Niigata University of Management and Springfield College. Martin stuck his ring dismount in both competitions and had an exciting Senior Day, achieving season high scores on both pommel horse and rings.

Rookie of the Week
Juan Gomez – Springfield
Gomez delivered a career-high score on the pommel horse to finish second in the event with a score of 12.90.

Gymnast of the Week
Yu-Chen Lee - California
Lee (Taiwan, Taipei) recorded a team-high 14.000 on the floor, a career mark on high bar (12.800), season-best on parallel bars (13.900), and a 13.000 on still rings to help the Golden Bears reach the 390 threshold for the first time this year as they hosted No. 1 Oklahoma (Mar. 20). Lee also helped Cal to a season best team total on parallel bars (65.950) and still rings (63.700). This is the second career MPSF weekly award for Lee, and is one of three gymnasts in the conference to be honored in multiple weeks this year (Feb. 9).
