USA Gymnastics
Steve Penny was named president of USA Gymnastics in April 2005. Penny, who joined USA Gymnastics in 1999, is responsible for the overall management and strategic planning for the association.
Penny’s goals and objectives for the association are to strive toward becoming the country’s premier national governing body through providing resources to athletes and coaches at the elite and grassroots levels; identifying new ways to increase efficiencies and success as a business; winning medals in the international competition arena; and clearly communicating to strengthen relationships with the gymnastics community, sponsors and the Olympic family.
Prior to becoming president, Penny was the federation’s senior vice president, responsible for sponsorship, events, television, public relations, international relations and U.S. Olympic Committee affairs.
A sports administrator for more than 20 years, Penny’s professional experience includes vice president of Bob Walsh Enterprises, a private sports marketing company in Seattle, and managing director of USA Cycling. He also worked for Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) on its premier international multi-sport event, the Goodwill Games, and for the Seattle Mariners in community affairs and public relations.
A graduate of the University of Washington, Penny enjoys all sports, including skiing and golf. He is married and has three daughters.
